This Call for Abstracts is for poster presentations at the Exercise and Physical Activity in Aging Conference (ExPAAC).
Purpose
The purpose of the ExPAAC poster session is to encourage dissemination of innovation in clinical practice, education or research as related to exercise and physical activity in aging. A variety of report types [case study reports, research reports, special interest reports or theory reports] will be considered. Practitioners from a variety of settings; clinicians, academicians, researchers and students are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract.
General Information for All ExPAAC Poster Abstracts
- Practitioners from a variety of settings; clinicians, academicians, researchers and students are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for a poster presentation with the intent to encourage dissemination of innovation in clinical practice, education or research as related to exercise and physical activity in aging.
- All abstracts must be submitted electronically through this site.
- There is no charge to submit an abstract.
- Each prospective presenter may submit a maximum of one poster abstract. Authors may be represented on more than one abstract submission; however, any given author may be a presenter on one poster. Presenters need not be primary authors.
- Abstract submissions for presentation may be from APTA members and non-APTA members. Non-APTA member presenters will pay non-APTA registration rates and will not be eligible for APTA registration rates.
- The presenter of the abstract must register for the conference and be available to participate in the program at the time scheduled. If accepted, poster presentations should include summary information in brief written statements and graphic materials [photographs, charts, graphs, diagrams, etc] that can be mounted on a posterboard [4 ft by 8 ft] with push pins.
- No honorarium or payment of expenses will be provided for abstract presenters.
- All abstracts will be peer-reviewed without knowledge of the identity of the author(s).
- All poster presentations must cover the content and outline as described in the abstract.
- All submissions should include the funding source information and any real or potential conflict(s) of interest. If none, state none.
- Entire abstract including title, authors and affiliations, and all abstract text is limited to 6000 characters including spaces which includes your title, authors and their affiliations, and all abstract text which is around 800 words.
- Abstracts for all accepted presentations will be published electronically on the APTA Section for Geriatrics ExPAAC website.
- All decisions of the 2010 ExPAAC Review Committee are final.
- Email notification will be made to the designated author/presenter regarding the status of each submission by April 30, 2010
- It is the responsibility of the author/presenter to inform either of the co-Chairs of the ExPAAC Abstract Review Committee of any changes in email contact information.

- Each abstract must indicate if the material has been or will be published or presented at another national meeting prior to the July 2010 ExPAAC meeting.
Categories for Submissions
Please identify which category or categories you believe your abstract best fits (check all that apply):
- Clinical Practice: Innovative and/or effective approaches/methods for integrating exercise and physical activity in aging into various types of clinical- and community-practices. [Case study, special interest, theory reports or research reports accepted]
- Academic: Innovative and/or effective educational approaches/methodologies for teaching exercise and physical activity in aging in the curriculum [case-study, special interest, theory reports or research reports accepted]
- Research: Original scientific data using any established research format (both experimental and nonexperimental designs) related to basic, clinical or translational research related to exercise and physical activity in aging [Research, case study or theory reports accepted]
Types of Submissions
Abstracts must be submitted as one of the following types:
- Case Study: Presentations of scholarly discussions about physical activity and aging as related to a particular patient/client case or cases with regard to current issues or dilemmas pertaining to either client examination, evaluation, prognosis, diagnosis or interventions. Outcomes of the case should be provided.
- Research Reports: Presentations of original scientific data collected by the author(s). Experimental and non-experimental designed may be represented [eg. Clinical trials, descriptive studies, single-subject designs, qualitative studies, randomized-clinical trials, quasi-experimental studies, etc]
- Special Interest Report: Presentations of unique and innovative concepts or ideas related to physical activity as applied to aging. Emphasis should be on the unique or innovative nature of the concept or idea presented. Special interest reports must contain data or evaluative information collected or developed by the author(s) that address the ideas or concepts presented.
- Theory Reports: Presentations of a theory, idea, concept or model that describe the foundation for promoting physical activity as applied to aging. Theory is a conjecture that is interpreted from logical reasoning based upon empirically derived evidence. Theory is empirically testable and consistent with existing knowledge.

The determination of acceptance/non-acceptance will be made through a peer-review process under the direction of the ExPAAC Review Committee, whose decisions are final. Email notification will be made to the primary author/presenter regarding the status of each submission by April 30, 2010. All presenters of accepted posters are required to register and pay the conference registration fee. Poster presenters shall be at their poster for two hours, as assigned by the ExPAAC Program Abstract subcommittee.
